WRITING - The Genie Training School

Updated: May 4, 2021

Very small children have very important jobs.

For example, the transportation department for the magical and secret Genie Training School is composed almost entirely of young children, most of whom are completely unaware of their importance! These children are very special, you see each one of them is the result of a wish. It’s really quite simple to identify these children.

They are the only ones inspired to blow the fuzz off a dandelion.

Let me explain.

Any child who is the fulfillment of a wish has magical breath. Magical breath that is essential for the resourcing and transportation of young genies all over the world.

Genies have a fascinating life cycle. Like other intelligent creatures, when they’re born, they have to learn. Therefore, there are Genie Training Schools all over the globe. You probably haven’t been aware of them up to now because when young, genies are small, much smaller than you might expect. They are so small in fact that an entire graduating class can fit on the head of a dandelion, which is convenient, because dandelions just happen to be where Genie Training Schools are located.

While at school, they learn all sorts of great things to help them become selfless, kind and wise. They learn important things, like how to make puppies fur extra soft, how to make teeth fall out at the right time, how to help children be brave in the dark and how to make you feel better after a hard cry. They learn to make giggles contagious, make stuffed animals seem real and remind children to look both ways before crossing the street. But most important of all, they learn how to hear the hearts of children who need wishes granted.

You can always tell when a class is graduating, because their dandelions will turn white and fluffy.

Those fluffy white things are called dandelion seeds by most adults, but the really smart ones know what they truly are. Wishes, waiting to take flight.

As part of their graduation ceremony, each genie must grant their first wish and fly off into the world to find new homes. A lamp, a plastic egg, a soda can; all sorts of things can be the home for a genie, just so long as it’s small and can be polished. Each white, fluffy wish has room for one graduating genie. Each genie has the know how to grant one small wish. What they lack, is the power.

This is where our wish fulfillment children come in.

The very special magic of a wish fulfillment child is their breath. You can’t see it, it doesn’t sparkle, or smell funny or anything. In fact it often smells like peanut butter and jelly, or chocolate milk or toothpaste. Even so, it is this magical breath that gives graduating genies the power they need to start granting wishes. And so it is that you can identify a child with magical breath, because part of the magic is their inspiration to blow the wishes off a dandelion.

The wish power of a child is enormous and provides a boost of magic that enables the genies to not only grant their first wishes, but also to locate and grow into a lamp, a bottle, a teapot, even a shoe if necessary. The genies then live in these locations until they have granted three wishes. At this point they are considered fully grown and become absolutely enormous, far too big for lamps and teapots and shoes. And this is where things get really great.

No one likes nightmares. They’re scary and unfriendly and cause all sorts of awfulness in young imaginations. It’s important to protect our children from nightmares as much and as often as possible. That’s exactly what genies are for.

Full grown genies ascend to the night sky and take their place…. As stars. When you look up into the inky blackness of space and see those beautiful pinpoints of light, you are seeing huge powerful genies, standing watch over the sleeping children of the world, guarding them from nightmares. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you’ll see a shooting star.

What you are watching is a full grown genie descending to the earth to do battle with a nightmare that is looking for a child to bother.

This is the most magical time in a genie's life cycle and so it is appropriate to make a wish when you see a shooting star. That genie is so powerful that it can grant the wishes of any child or parent who sees it.

So you see, whenever a child blows the wishes off a dandelion, they are using their magical breath to fill the world with magic and protect other children from fear.

That's a very important job.
